COMMUNITY BACKPACK DRIVE
Supporting Survivors of Human Trafficking
The Junior League of Hamilton-Burlington, Inc. is spearheading a backpack drive to support survivors of human trafficking, some of whom have been held in captivity for years and may not have not had anything of their own while being trafficked.
Donation boxes are located throughout the Hamilton-Burlington community to collect items such as new pajamas, underwear, yoga pants and tops, and hygiene products. A full list of the most needed items can be found on the poster below. These items will be placed in backpacks, and then distributed by the Hamilton Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition.
Human Trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery and has become a major concern in the Hamilton/Burlington community and throughout Southwestern Ontario. Traffickers maintain control over their victims through manipulation, threats, and / or the abuse of trust and power. Victims may be trafficked by someone they know or in some cases, connection is made through social media with a gradual, well executed plan to distance the victim from family and friends.
You can help with either financial or specific donations and/or with the placement of one of our donation boxes at your business. Our target goal is a minimum of 50 filled backpacks. Please help us reach that goal!
