The League offers its members both formal and experiential training in things like community program development and evaluation, effective Board governance and nonprofit best practices, as well as  communications, budgeting and fund development. Congratulations!                                                                                                                                            Each year the JLHB honours a New, Active and Sustaining member whose leadership exemplifies the Junior League Mission, Vision and Values and demonstrates effective volunteer, community service.

2011 Award recipients:

Rookie of the Year Award - Vanessa dos Santos has been actively involved since joining the League earlier this year. She has shown great strength and support to her fellow New Members during the planning process of their project and helped lead this years Kids in the Kitchen program to another successful event.

Phyllis Dutchak Active of the Year Award - Lucy McGreal and Debbie Strybosch have both had tremendous growth in their leadership abilities. Witnessed by their passion, dedication and amount of volunteer time with the Empower Hour program, Done in a Day activities and overall engagement in the JLHB, they have demonstrated their  commitment to the League's community impact as well as to the JLHB.

Margaret Gilmour Sustainer of the Year Award - Diane Gower-Dent's demonstrated leadership in her contributions to the City of Hamilton have earned her this special honour.  Diane is a recipient of a Heritage Community Recognition Award for Lifetime Achievement for her work in protecting and preserving many of Hamilton's beautiful heritage buildings.
