JLHB Community Impact - Focus on Poverty and Developing Young Women.
The root causes of poverty are a lack of housing, warm clothing, education, food security, income security, accessible transportation, social inclusion and safe neighborhoods.
Poverty has a female face that often goes unreported.
Women account for about 6o percent of minimum-wage earners.
Women on their own are the poorest of the poor, especially women raising children, in one-parent families, who are almost five times more likely to be poor than those in two-parent families.
Young single mothers are particulary vulnerable, and represent and area of great need in our community.

JLHB members help to create The Junior Leagues' Roadmap for the Future

The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) has embarked on a major strategic planning initiative whose goal is nothing short of transforming the Junior League to thrive for decades to come. At a time when many organizations are retrenching, Junior League leaders are taking bold steps to ensure the future of the organization that has contributed to the development of civic leaders and to meaningful community improvements. JLHB members are participating on an Association Strategic Roadmap Steering Committee, Governance and Management Design Team and engaged in League wide dialogue to help create the Junior League Roadmap to the future.

New, warm winter coats help area youth.
Some of the coats were distributed to Burlington's Compassion Society
One hundred and fifty six new winter coats, in a variety of youth sizes, were distributed in our community to help ensure that everyone who needs a coat has one. These coats have been supplied as a result of a JLHB partnership with One Warm Coat, a not for profit organization that enables other organizations, like the JLHB, to provide coats for free, to people in need. The new coats were donated to One Warm Coat by Aeropostale, a youth oriented retailer.
